HEART: An Abbott Celebration (PERFORMANCE VIDEO)
I’m honored to share this performance video with you all! On February 21st, I performed the song “Bewitched” as a featured alumnus at Temple University’s HEART: An Abbott Celebration. The concert honored fellow alumnus Joy Abbott (EDU ‘52), who passed away in 2020, and featured songs from the works of her late husband George Abbott.
I first prepared this song in 2020 for a different show which was to be titled By George, It’s Joy!, which started out as a concert that would feature Joy Abbott, but was altered to honor her memory after her passing. The original show was scheduled to be performed on March 15th, 2020. Can you guess why it might have been canceled? 😅
I’m so thankful to have been asked back for the scaled-down, covid-safe redux of BGIJ. Not only was I delighted to finally sing this beautiful song and to reconnect with faculty and alumni, but I was also proud to be able to honor Joy Abbott. Since the majority of current students entered Temple during the pandemic, I was a rare performer who had actually met Joy before. Though our meetings were brief, her radiance always left a lasting impact on all of us. We can only hope that she smiled down on us that evening.
