january shows: 54 below and the bushwick broadway!

Back so soon, I know. But I already have a lot to share with you! I’ve got two shows coming up in January, one of which is NEXT freakin’ week. So I can’t waste another moment!

Tuesday, January 9th at 9:30pm: History 101 @ 54 Below (Theater District)

THIS coming Tuesday, I’ll be making my 54 Below debut! 🎉
Old friends may remember that more than 5 years ago, I played Daisy Hilton in Side Show at Temple. The show semi-biographs Daisy & Violet Hilton, the British-American vaudeville-turned-film stars and famous conjoined twins. It was one of my favorite roles I’ve ever played, due in no small part to the talent and personality of my “twin” Alexa. 💞
It brings me ineffable joy to be able to sing with her again, as we are reviving our roles for one night (and one song) only in “History 101: Historical Figures Who Got The Broadway Treatment.” Our first rehearsal I even gave myself chills; if you want some yourself, tickets are available here: https://54below.org/events/54-sings-history-101-historical-figures-that-got-the-broadway-treatment/
AND, there are a limited number of $15 tickets available! This is a new initiative 54B is trying out in order to make their shows more accessible. Get ‘em before they’re gone!

Wednesday, January 17th @ 7:30pm: Anniversary Show @ The Broadway (Bushwick)

Brooklyn friends, I’m finally coming to you! Before I can even catch my breath, I’ll be doing a full set at The Broadway in Bushwick with my old pals at Breaking Sound. 🎺
This is one of what I call my “rita shows,” since I simply do not know what to call performances that are not other people’s songs or other people’s words. (Please help me out here, guys.) Me and three kick-ass musicians will be playing a full 30-minute set of original music, from classic faves like “couch” and “cap” to maybe even a new song or two (if I can finish them in time lol 🥴). This is a bigger and fuller setup than my previous Breaking Sound shows, complete with drums – meaning I can finally debut what I like to call “couch (loud version). I cannot wait for this one, yall. Tickets are here: https://www.tixr.com/
And as usual, if you would like to sponsor a ticket, get in touch! They are always incredibly helpful for assuring that my shows are accessible to all.

That’s all for now, dear reader. Thank you for reading, and also for replying to my new year’s eve post last weekend! I loved reading and responding to them all. Always so grateful for you making a little space for me in your lives. Here’s to kicking 2024 off right! 🥳

PS – fun fact for anyone still here: in Side Show Alexa & I were not actually attached in any way. On Broadway they were sewn together, and at Temple they planned to put magnets in our costumes, but after they saw how well we naturally stayed together during rehearsals, they scrapped it. Talk about true sisterhood. 👯‍♀️
